Aquila is designed as a medical specialty clinic to function within the health care universe in partnership with primary care physicians. Every effort and every expectation encourages early identification of heavy use or misuse of alcohol and other drugs by professionals who witness early symptoms.
Change How America Responds To Addiction Disease
We devote intensive education to screening, brief interventions and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for primary care providers, pastoral counselors, human resource professionals, Employee Assistance Professionals, and others who observe early symptoms. We also protect the on-going relationship with a referring physician and practice.
The Aquila Model establishes a respect for and knowledge of brain disease – particularly substance use disorder – at all stages of risk and dependence. Individual wellness plans are informed by medical examinations, counselor observations and client reporting. Each plan is a product of, and owned by, the individual in care.
Non-confrontational and judgment-free therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI).
Wellness planning is an important and continuing process for each individual. Clients are encouraged to develop community networks in education, employment, primary health, recreation, volunteer services, and worship to help foster their change in recovery.
Long-term relationships with community supports groups are encouraged, including – but not limited to – Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Smart Recovery.
Our recovery centers for alcohol and drug abuse in Washington, DC are well established and held in high regard in the community.
